Anzac Day remembers and thanks the people who have fought for our country. The people who defended our country get special medals. These medals are proudly worn on Anzac day when we remember all the people who died or suffered in wars so we might live freely.
The Ode is part of a special poem that is said during the Anzac service
“They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn. At the going down
Of the sun and in the morning we
Will remember them.”
Poppies have an enduring association with Anzac Day dating back to the 1920’s. Poppies are pinned to the chest all over the world as a vivid reminder of the blood sacrificed during war.
Rosemary twigs and laurel leaves remember the bloody
struggle for Gallipoli 1915.
On Anzac Day flowers and wreaths are laid at the bottom of the war memorials as a way of saying “We remembered these brave people.” A war memorial honours all those who have died in wars.
